Which Dallas–Fort Worth Hospital Systems Are In-Network for Medicare?

Your Dallas Medicare Advantage plan is only as good as its network. Here's how the major DFW hospital systems — Texas Health, Baylor Scott & White, Methodist, UT Southwestern, and Medical City — fit into Medicare plans, and how to check yours.

When people in Dallas–Fort Worth compare Medicare Advantage plans, they often focus on the premium first. But for an Advantage plan, the network usually matters more than the premium — because if your hospital or specialist isn't in-network, the plan's low cost can disappear fast.

DFW is served by several large, well-known health systems, and which ones a plan includes varies plan by plan. Here's how the major systems fit into the picture, and how to make sure the plan you choose covers the care you actually use.

The major DFW health systems

  • Texas Health Resources — one of the largest systems in North Texas, with hospitals across Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, Denton, and the suburbs.
  • Baylor Scott & White Health — a major presence across the Metroplex, including All Saints in Fort Worth and locations in McKinney and beyond.
  • Methodist Health System — strong in Dallas County and the southern Metroplex.
  • UT Southwestern Medical Center — an academic system in Dallas known for specialized and complex care.
  • Medical City Healthcare — a large network with hospitals in Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Denton, Lewisville, Arlington, and more.
  • JPS Health Network — Tarrant County's public hospital system, centered in Fort Worth.

Why "in-network" is the whole game with Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) use HMO or PPO networks. With an HMO, care is generally only covered in-network except for emergencies. With a PPO, you can go out-of-network but usually pay more. Either way, staying in-network keeps your costs predictable.

That's very different from Original Medicare, which is accepted by most doctors and hospitals nationwide that take Medicare — and, when paired with a Medicare Supplement, gives you broad freedom to use any of these DFW systems. The trade-off is a monthly Supplement premium. Which path fits depends on how attached you are to specific providers and how you weigh predictable costs versus flexibility.

How to check whether your providers are covered

Before you enroll in any Dallas–Fort Worth Medicare Advantage plan:

  1. List your doctors and preferred hospital(s) — including specialists you see regularly.
  2. Check each plan's provider directory for your exact providers (directories change, so confirm for the current plan year).
  3. Confirm your pharmacy and medications are covered under the plan's Part D formulary.
  4. Ask about referrals and prior authorization if you have ongoing or specialized care.

Provider directories aren't always easy to read, and they change year to year — which is exactly where a local advisor saves you time and surprises.

County by county

Networks tend to follow the systems that dominate each part of the Metroplex. You can see the systems most common in each area on our county pages: Dallas County, Tarrant County, Collin County, and Denton County.
